What happens when Momma promises her son an outing while he’s on spring break and she doesn’t anticipate a migraine to appear? She does what she set out to do! Why? Because I have faith that it will all work out & having God’s protection, grace, and guidance along the way as an accelerator. This is how determination often appears without intending it to.
NOTE: images coming soon
First of all, she bases her decision on the answers to a few questions:
- her the contagion level (Am I contagious?)
- Answer: not unless ocular migraine is transmutable (note: more on this in a bit and yes I had my sense for this event)
- will this “not feeling all that great” status take a toll on anyone else in the long run?
- Answer: No, unless the choice is based on self-centeredness & want to make everyone suffer because it’s all about you. (this outing was almost a deal breaker if I made it all about me.) takes her son out of the adventure with noise, lights, and a bunch of stimulation (mental, visual, physical) all packed in there. They even met up with some friends there too.
- how long will this event last? (ok, I’m not gonna lie, this last question sounds terribly selfish all written out…in my head it had a different context. After all, this was something I wanted to do too regardless of the physical effects my body was making obvious.
- Answer: it’s temporary plus God is on the move…He told me this was part of the plan!
Now before this goes all grumbly and stuff, let me just say that God has His way of showing up in unexpected ways. On this day, He showed up with big and deep lessons for both kids and parents alike (more on that at another time), He gave me a reminder of Who’s I am regardless of where and how I find myself. He showed me a quality I’ve always had yet hadn’t quite embraced: determination!
You see (from a 10k-foot view), a while back, I made a number of goals that seemed slightly unreachable or un-trackable (thanks to my limited brain) yet attainable (somehow). One of those goals was a faith goal which stretches me to unhinge some fear & limiting beliefs (and a few others blocking my way) to live my life with more attention and direction with Jesus (Who created my life and is leading to unfolding it). In not knowing what the end result is, I have faith!
Guess what? The unfortunate event happening behind the scene in this day’s snapshot is part of this grand adventure – both fun and scary with any number of unexpected & timely events in between – and I’m glad I’m on it. This is part of me living my best life, and choosing to embrace where I’m at on the way to get there.
To sum this up: When you place your faith in God…you can do hard things too. Nothing is impossible with God. Then take that determination and apply it to other areas in life and see where He takes you!
In the meantime, here are some pictures of our adventure which soon after landed this Momma in bed for the rest of the day and through the night to recover while the young man was loved on by his grandparents.
And about that migraine: You see, migraines are a major momentary-life game-changer for me – some are more minor than others. The pain doesn’t come until after the fastly & increased onset of slurred speech, temporary blindness, and slight numbing of the limbs. The headache pain appears like a delayed reaction (as in hours after that last for 24-48 hours) to the silent onset only it lasts far longer than the initial signals. What helps this: cold compresses, a dark room, and a quiet environment along with a combo of muscle relaxers, pain meds, essential oils, and/or CBD, ) for many hours. So when a big one comes on… watch out! (Another note; this is a generational curse that I’m at least generation four of)
