Ahh, the signs of spring are a welcomed sight!! Something is inspiring about seeing trees awaken after a long winter’s sleep and early spring flowers sprout out of the ground. It does something to the body and the mind in a positive way.
This time of year in Michigan, winter still appears with the occasional winter storm and accumulating snow however they are becoming fewer and farther between. That in itself brings relief, especially for someone, like me, who has seasonal affective disorder, and being outside is a remedy. At least for now, being outside for longer than getting out of the car and into a warm shelter; it’s in the nearer future than it was before.
Note: if you have depression or any mental affliction, seeking help is highly suggested. For those who need resources beyond the ability of a coach (like myself), click on this resource AND you can call or text 988 (for those in the United States). Another resource that is available: BetterHelp (it’s a connective tool that has proven to be helpful to me outside of coaching).
Come on now…
Seeing more bouts of sunshine and clear skies invites action to ideas you’ve had floating around in the “when spring arrives I’ll…” realm, doesn’t it? After all, it’s a great time to get outside to soak up the sunlight and breathe in some fresh air.
Here are a couple of ideas of what you can do, either by yourself or with members of your family. (Things like this help me with the seasonal affective disorder mentioned in this post).
- Take a walk.
- While you walk, look around and look for the buds on the trees and sprouts of flowers poking through the ground.
- Pull a chair out, sit down, and feel the breeze on your face for a minimum of 5 minutes each day.
- Who cares if you wearing a coat, give yourself a chance to let go of negative thoughts…it makes room for the positive ones
When you want to involve the family in a springtime garden activity, click here for a project I did for identifying flowers and plants in the garden.
Here’s another idea that can be done when you want to have some fun and create memories with the kiddos: Put on some goulashes and go puddle jumping, oh yeah and bring your camera. Fair warning: doing a load of laundry may be in order afterward, but some good laughs are likely to be had & possibly some good pictures too.
